Music over the years has gone from inspiring the people to influencing teenagers to follow drugs and buy specific cloth brands. How far has the industry sank that there are no more lennans in the music world pushing for peace and love, but now only britany spears who loses more articles of clothing a show than I do wallets a year. I miss the good old days when Woodstock had a meaning in 69 where artist cared more for the people than the income, albums wern't shot out 2 a week and the lyrics had meaning, now all the bands like that are ignored and very few become popular.

I wouldn't say it's a commercial...music will always be music. Though I do believe they are using music to HELP sell stuff. Though I don't think we are at the point of making music just for the profit.

People push for peace all the time, some of them actually even do things about it. There are lots of political bands that actually risk their lives and record deals in protests.
I have to agree with the notion that the industry is going downhill, but it's making more money too, so it has nowhere to go but further down. Remember when pop was just elton john and michael jackson and berlin and other crazy shit? When did it become Usher, and eminem and all this bullshit we hear every day on our way to school?
Also lyrics had less meaning back in the day... I say good. Your preference should not be one of lyrical focus [my girlfriend is going to kill me for saying this], because that is fucking lame. Artists who are really talented sometimes don't get a chance, while these shit heads get millions of album sales because their lyrics appeal to you? Sorry.
Pop isn't even the most downhill genre. Just every genre nowadays encompasses the same wrongness that Pop has fallen into. Nu-metal is by far the metal that's most popular with the kids, and that isn't METAL! That's hip-hop with low-pitched farting guitars and shitty drums that always sound the same! ALWAYS!

Very nice points you make Eyesore, but I still think that music just isn't what it used to be, not just lyricwise ok but the actual music doesnt have the same feel or meaning, like you said the indstry is just going downhill. People like Eminem are taking all the money and saying they deserve it, and he sits on his ass all day raping about the useless shit, while bands that're smaller are pushing to earn a living but sound good and deserve to make it.

Well I think music was progressing quite nicely until it stopped being innovative and inspirational. Can't exactly say when that was... I guess when uniqueness became a trend, and bands like Korn started appearing everywhere.
Sure Korn was unique, but their uniqueness was that they sucked. That was pretty much it.
Also, pop artists nowadays, who don't even write their own music [and sometimes even their fucking lyrics] do NOT deserve money no matter how you put it. How does it take a year to record a rap album, when Sepultura recorded an album and wrote all the music and lyrics to it in the span of TWO DAYS, sure the recording was low quality but it was still a trillion million times more innovative than Usher or anything new will ever be.
Not ANYTHING new... I'm sure new, good artists are popping up all over the place, just they don't get attention anymore.

Ok, let's look at rappers.
They all dress the same, sound the same, act the same, got shot the same number of times, buy "grills," have video's featuring mainly Nike and rebok... Yeah... commercial...

...they also release god awful headache inducers that get played on the radio every four seconds, only to release a "remix" two days later for some unknown reason.
